Synopsis:
Night. Joke (34) stares out of the first floor window of her suburban house. Dressed in a bathrobe, she closes the curtains, looks at her two motionless children and walks down the stairs. A man is lying on the couch. She looks at him. He is dead. She leaves the house, starts the car and drives away.
Maddox (25) is standing in the middle of an empty road. Dressed in a white gown, barefoot, a crucifix around her neck. She prays. A car is nearing. She looks up, spreads her arms, takes one last deep breath and closes her eyes.
John (32) is running for his life. He runs up to a road, and sees a strange scene: a car standing right in front of a woman, her arms spread wide. Without hesitation, he jumps in the car.
This is how Three Hearts begins. Wat follows is an adventurous odyssee towards ‘Geldrop’, a very normal village with three hearts in its coat of arms. There, our trio hopes to find redemption and liberation. The seven days of their journey on the road leads them through a real life that does not seem to be bothered by them, which means a lot is possible, even though at some points, reality shows itself through the daily news presence. This leads to a threatening undercurrent – Joke is in the news for killing her husband, John’s pictures are all over the papers because he is an escaped psychotic maniac, and Maddox is the lost, suicidal daughter of a popular singer – but to our three friends, that threath is unreal, more unreal than the dreams that accompany them.
