Synopsis
Theo van Gogh’s contemporary adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in a modern day multicultural society: an upperclass girl named Julia falls in love with Najib, a Moroccan pizza delivery boy.
Will their forbidden attraction endure the pressure of their native cultures?
Najib & Julia was made for Dutch public television and shown in thirteen weeks during the winter of 2003. Originally formatted in thirteen episodes, the complete series was later made into six longer episodes and rerun a year later.
The show won a Golden Calf, the Dutch equivalent of the Academy Award, for Best TV-drama in 2004.
